Hiring safety

Beware fake job adverts.

Scammers are posting fake job adverts in the names of well-known brands and real recruiters. Candidates are sent a booking page that looks like a real scheduling tool, then a fake Google or Facebook sign-in that steals their password. Marketing and communications roles are a favourite target, because those accounts can reach company systems and ad budgets.

Protect your candidates, and your brand
  • Post your jobs on your own careers page too, so candidates can check they're real.
  • Book interviews without asking candidates to sign in to anything.
  • Tell candidates which email address you'll contact them from.
  • Search for your company name in job adverts now and then, and report fakes.

On Sylpen, only verified UK companies can post jobs, and every job shows its salary. Read our Hiring safety page.

Questions

Questions UK employers ask.

Figures are from the sources shown on this page and are updated monthly.
How long does it take to hire in the UK?

About eight weeks on average in 2026, up from around five a year earlier, and longer for senior roles (Totaljobs, 2026). Clear must-haves and quick answers to candidates shorten it.

What is the minimum wage in 2026?

From 1 April 2026 the National Living Wage is £12.71 an hour for workers aged 21 and over. The rates change every April.

What changes in UK employment law in 2027?

From 1 January 2027, unfair dismissal protection is expected to start after six months of employment instead of two years, under the Employment Rights Act 2025, so probation reviews matter more. Limits on fire and rehire are also expected.

What does a software engineer earn in the UK?

The median full-time salary for programmers and software development professionals was £56,914 in 2025, with half earning between £42,289 and £75,794 (ONS ASHE 2025, provisional).
