Syl · Hiring safety

Every company on Sylpen is real, and checked.

Fake job adverts are rising across the UK. On Sylpen, only verified UK companies can post a job or ask to meet you, every job shows its salary, and you never pay anything, to anyone.

How we check

How we check, on both sides.

  • CompaniesWork email, confirmed

Signed up with an email on the company's own domain, confirmed by code. Personal addresses aren't accepted.

  • CompaniesCompanies House

An active UK company that matches the email domain. Anything unclear is held for a person on our team.

  • CompaniesNo middlemen

Recruitment agencies and third parties can't post or ask to meet you. You deal with the company itself.

  • TalentEmail and UK mobile, confirmed

Confirmed before any company can see their profile.

  • BothA person reviews

Syl flags anything unusual. A person on our team decides, never the AI alone.

  • BothReport anything

Anything on Sylpen can be reported through our Report content page. A person looks at every report.

Is it really Sylpen?

How to know it's really us.

  • Our website is sylpen.ai, for companies and talent alike. Nothing else. We spell it Sylpen, with no E.
  • Our emails come only from addresses ending @sylpen.ai. Nothing else is us, however close it looks.
  • You only ever sign in at sylpen.ai. Our sign-in emails give you a 6-digit code to type there.
  • Interviews are booked inside Sylpen and held on the company’s own Teams, Meet or in person. We never ask you to sign in to a booking page.
  • We never ask you for money, bank details, or photos of your passport by email or message.
  • Sylpen™ is a product of Vertx® Talent Ltd. Our company details are below.

Who we are

One company, in the UK.

  • Vertx Talent Ltd, the company behind Sylpen, is our only company. We have no sister companies, subsidiaries or partners trading under our name.
  • We have no connection with any business called "Vertex", or any similar name.
  • We operate only in the UK, from our registered office in London. We have no offices or consultants overseas.
  • We don't work through third-party agencies, and we never white-label or resell our service or candidates through other companies. Every company deals with Sylpen directly, and every candidate is an individual, never an agency's worker.
  • A company abroad using our name, or anything close to it, is not us. Please tell us.

Proxy hiring

The person you interview should be the person who works.

Proxy hiring is when someone else sits the interview, or a different person turns up to do the job. It often comes through agencies that put forward one person and supply another. We have seen it try to get through Sylpen, and our checks are built from what we found.

What Sylpen does
  • Individuals only: agencies and "managers" can't put people forward
  • After an interview we can ask you whether the person matched their photo, and a person on our team follows up
  • Repeated devices, phones or CVs across accounts are flagged to a person
What you can do
  • Keep cameras on for the whole interview, and ask for a short live task
  • Ask about their own work in detail: what they did, what went wrong, what they'd change
  • Check the person who starts is the person you interviewed, on their first day

Signs of a proxy

  • 01A different face

The person on camera doesn't match their photo, or a different person turns up on day one.

  • 02Camera trouble at key moments

The camera goes off, freezes or blurs exactly when a hard question is asked.

  • 03Lips and voice out of step

Speech that lags behind the lips, or a voice that changes between calls.

  • 04Reading, not thinking

Eyes moving to the side, long pauses then perfect answers, or answers that never touch their own work.

  • 05Someone else is in charge

An "agent" or "manager" who wants to handle contact, contracts or pay for them.

  • 06Work that doesn't match the interview

Once they start, the skills, writing or voice are noticeably different.

For talent: never let anyone interview or work in your name, and never lend your ID or accounts. If someone offers to “get you through” an interview for a fee, it’s fraud, and your profile will be closed. Tell us if anyone asks.

Spot a fake

Six signs a job offer is fake.

  • 01It found you out of nowhere

An unexpected message from a famous brand or a "recruiter" you've never heard of.

  • 02It asks you to sign in

Real booking pages let you pick a time. They don't ask for your Google, Microsoft or Facebook password.

  • 03The address is slightly off

A web or email address that's nearly right: an extra letter, a hyphen, a different ending.

  • 04It's in a hurry

"Book in the next hour", "we have to fill this today". Pressure is the scammer's best tool.

  • 05It asks for money or documents

Fees for training or equipment, bank details, or passport photos before any offer.

  • 06The job isn't on their website

Check the company's own careers page, or call their switchboard and ask.

If you’ve been caught out: change your passwords, turn on two-step sign-in, and tell your bank if you shared payment details. Report it to Report Fraud (0300 123 2040), or in Scotland to Police Scotland on 101, and tell us if it used our name.

Seen something that doesn’t look right?

Tell us. A person on our team looks at every report, and we act on it fast.
